At Southpointe, we value gifts from our family of current parents, alumnae, grandparents and friends.
Your support of Southpointe’s Annual Fund, and other traditional fundraising events (such as the Gala and Multicultural Night), provides the financial resources necessary for needed enhancements, giving all of our children the opportunities and inspiring environment in which to learn.
Members of the Southpointe community provide financial support in many different ways. Giving is a very personal matter and we will work with families to accommodate/facilitate their individual giving requests. Gifts to the school do not need to be made as a lump sum. You may wish to consider structuring your gifts over time, for example on a monthly basis.
As an independent, non-denominational, not-for-profit institution, Southpointe Academy is able to issue tax receipts for qualifying donations over $50. We also accept a wide range of gifts. Below are examples of the types of gifts that our school gratefully accepts.
Gifts of cash via cheque or credit card can be made to the school. We now provide an onsite credit card payment option, or gifts can be made directly online through the Parent Portal.
A monthly gift is a convenient way to make your gift. It can be arranged as an automatic recurring credit card payment.
Many companies match their employees’ contributions to non-profit organizations. Check with your employer to find out if they have a matching gift program. A list of companies known to match charitable gifts may also be found here.
United Way Gifts
Donations to the United Way can be directed to Southpointe Academy. Donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes and be recognized as a United Way donor, as well as a supporter of Southpointe.
Stocks, Bonds & Mutual Funds
Gifts of publicly traded securities, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds are partially exempt from capital gains tax. A tax receipt is issued for the market value of the securities on the day of the legal transfer.
Individuals donating purchased items must provide the sales receipt as evidence of the valuation of the item to be receipted. This applies to purchases of tangible goods only and not to services.
Real Estate, Art, Equipment & Other Tangible Items
Southpointe also accepts donations of real estate, art, and other tangible items. Gifts will be evaluated for acceptance, subject to The Board Of Governors approval. A tax receipt will be provided for the fair market value of these gifts as assessed by qualified appraisers.
Gifts of Services
We value the generous volunteer commitment that our parents make to help our school thrive. Regretfully, we are unable to issue tax receipts for the value of ‘time’ spent by a volunteer. Examples of gifts of service include boat cruises, lessons, educational courses, professional services, sports activities, and consultation of any kind, personal grooming, and transport services. Gifts of service are not considered property and unfortunately do not qualify for a tax receipt.
