Southpointe Academy South Delta Regional Scholarship

Purpose: To “give back” to the community and raise the School’s profile with local constituencies, Southpointe Academy is initiating a scholarship for an outstanding student entering Grade 11 from the South Delta area.

The Award

  • Tuition fees for Grade 11 and 12, Application Fee and New Family Fee
  • Exemption from the requirement to purchase a Southpointe Bond.

Deadline for 2019-2020 is Friday, March 29, 2019

Eligibility Criteria – All of the following factors will be considered in the selection process. The successful applicant will:

  • Be an outstanding secondary student who meets the School’s academic standards for admission to Grade 11.
  • Have demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas: arts, athletics, community service.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to become involved in and contribute to Southpointe’s curricular and co-curricular programmes.
  • Commit to remain enrolled at Southpointe for Grades 11 and 12.
  • Be a non-Southpointe student who resides in South Delta.

Additional school expenses not included in scholarship (depending on financial ability):

  • Field trips, Outdoor education fees, international trips, school/team uniforms
  • Musical instrument and other equipment rentals

Application Procedures:

In addition to the application form, the applicant will provide:

  1. A maximum one-page resume.
  2. References or recommendation letters (2 maximum).
  3. Reports cards from Grade 9 (year end) and Grade 10 (Mid-year or Term 2).
  4. Written personal statement outlining ‘Why Southpointe?’ (500-word maximum), including personal attributes, goals they hope to achieve at Southpointe, and how they plan to contribute to the Southpointe community.
  5. Evidence of other attributes, such as, creativity, innovation, initiative, motivation, leadership, cooperation, and good citizenship in school and the greater community.

Selection Process:

  1. Applicants will be judged by a selection committee comprised of the Head of School, a member of the Board of Governors, Senior School Principal, and Director of Admissions.
  2. Successful applicants will be invited to tour Southpointe and interview with the Selection Committee.
  3. Decisions will be made in March 2019 regarding entrance to the 2019-2020 School Year.
  4. The Selection Committee may, at their discretion, postpone the awarding of this scholarship
